Week of December 16, 2018
Here is good Advent advice and a meditation that I would like to give to you taken from one of our newest saints: St. Mother Teresa. This meditation is in regards to silence, which I believe should be an important part of our Advent Season of preparation in these final days and week before Christmas. It goes like this:
“Prayer is a two-way process: speaking and listening. God speaks to us; we listen. We speak to God; God listens. God speaks in the silence of our heart, and we listen. And, then we speak to God from the fullness of our heart and God listens. Our words are useless unless they come from the bottom of the heart. Listen in silence, because if your heart is full of other things you cannot hear God’s voice. But when you have listened to God’s voice in the stillness of your heart, then your heart is filled with God. Then you can hear God everywhere: in the closing of a door, in the person who needs you, in the birds that sing, in the flowers, in the animals, in that silence which is the wonder and praise.” (St. Mother Teresa)
My advice to you would be to please take some time for peace and quiet. Dim the lights, gaze upon your Christmas Tree or Advent Candle, watch the falling snow or find some place to be alone and allow God to speak to you. Try to find the “Prince of peace” who has come to bring us good tidings as we prepare for Christmas! Here’s hoping your remaining days of the Advent Season be ones of true happiness, peace, and joy!
