Lent is coming soon! Time to get back into spiritual shape as we prepare for Holy Week and Easter. This Lent we are doing something special. Our “Rebuilt” Evangelization Committee has put together a program we hope you will consider being part of in order to enrich your Catholic spiritual life. We have called it: “Gather Us In,” a parish program which will focus on the richness of our Catholic Mass.
Recently the Diocese of St. Cloud has put together a DVD series on the teaching of the Mass. It’s a several part series where participants view certain short segments of video which highlights the various parts of the Mass and then this gathering will hold group discussions. The purpose of this series is really to educate us on the richness of our Catholic Faith and give us better insight into the theology of why we do what we do during our Catholic celebration of the Eucharist. Our Catholic liturgy (i.e. celebration the Eucharist) has evolved over the course of 2000 years, beginning with Jesus and our Jewish roots to the Christian celebration we have today. In the course of this time, the Mass has picked and refined various traditions, incorporated certain liturgical prayers and ritual actions which add meaning to our faith in Jesus Christ. Our Sunday liturgies then are a culmination of a lot of things!
The philosophy of our “Rebuilt” Evangelization Committee is that if Catholics, like you and I, know more about what we do and why we do it, then this can be a springboard for us not only to be able to explain our Catholic Faith, but also a means to invite others in! A big part of our call as disciples of Christ is not to just be “consumer Catholics” as the Rebuilt program suggests but to be “true disciples” who are willing to evangelize and be able to explain the reasons for our faith and hope in Christ!
All during Lent there will be opportunities to gather, in small groups at each church after the Masses, to view a segment of the video and have a discussion. There will also be opportunities during the week to participate as well. You do not have to stay with one group or meeting time, nor do you have to attend all sessions. You can attend as many sessions as you want and at any time. Our purpose is to make this as easy and as informative as possible. I personally will be hosting 3 sessions at the Regency in downtown (i.e. Reflections at the Regency.) During our Sunday Mass times all through Lent, I will also be preaching on some facet of the Eucharist as it pertains to us.
As we are about to embark on our 40 day journey through Lent with Christ, I encourage everyone to be part of our “Gather Us In” event. Watch our Bulletin and flyers for more details and information on times and dates. Hope to see you there!
