Week of January 7, 2018
“Happy Epiphany everyone!” The Feast of Epiphany, for me, really solidifies Christmas. Why, because it speaks to the very essence of our spiritual life: the Journey, the Light, and the Wise. We all have a journey to make (often in the dark), a desert to cross, and yet we are guided by Christ’s light which leads us to the joy of heaven where gifts and treasured are shared. This said, I would like to leave you this meditation from Pope Francis:
“Faith is not a decorative or ornamental element. Living faith does not mean decorating life with a little religion, as if it were a cake and we were decorating it with cream. Faith means choosing God as the criterion and basis of life, and God is not empty, God is not neutral. God is always positive. God is love, and love is positive. After Jesus has come into the world, it is impossible to act as if we do not know God, or as if God were something abstract, empty, a purely nominal reference. No, God has a real face. God has a real name: God is mercy, faithfulness, life which is given to us all….” (Pope Francis)
Maybe it’s not by accident that Epiphany always falls on the New Year. Once we have celebrated our Lord’s birth, it’s now time to make our own journey and allow the Light of the Holy Spirit to guide.
Words to live by: “You can’t control the length of your life, but you can control its width and depth.”
P.S. This week I will gone with all the priests of our Diocese on a retreat at Kings House in Buffalo, MN. Pray for us as we will for you.
