Week of July 9, 2017

This week some members of our youth from our twinned parishes of St. Peter and St. Paul, along with St. Augustine and St. Mary’s Cathedral will be going on a Steubenville-Rochester Youth Conference starting July 13-17th This is an exciting time for our young people to gather to pray, worship, listen to some great spiritual, motivational speakers, and to connect with other young people who are excited about our Catholic Faith. The real purpose of these conferences is to help youth see God at work in their lives and to equip them with the spiritual gifts and tools they need to meet the many challenges of our world. It is also meant to prepare them for adulthood as they learn to pass on their Catholic Faith to others.

The theme of the conference is “Elevate” based on the Scripture verse “Behold, I make all things new” (Rev. 21:5). This is an invitation by our Lord to receive the new life He offers to someone searching for meaning and purpose as they strive to overcome fear, anxiety, confusion and doubt in their teenage years.

I personally have seen some great fruits come out of these gatherings. After a Steubenville conference, I have seen some of our young people get involved in teaching within our Faith Formation Programs, become a lector, a Eucharistic minister, greeter, volunteer at events, and simply be more active in our parish life! In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus says, “You shall know them by their fruits.” (Mt. 13,10f). If this is any indication of the fruits that come from these experiences, to me, it’s a good thing! If you like to learn more you can visit . If you would like to help by a donation: Please mail any gifts to: Niki Walz, Church of St. Augustine, 442 2nd St. SE, St. Cloud, MN 56304. Address the check to “2017 Stuebenville-Rochester Conference.”

Let’s be sure to pray for our young people as they embark on this spiritual journey with our Lord this week. Special thanks to Niki Walz and Tricia Walz who are our parish representatives and are helping pull this all together for our young people.

Words to live by: “An important part of praying is a willingness to become part of the answer.”
