Each year at this time, I like to pray the “Litany of Thanksgiving” which I would like to share with you today. I think it’s a wonderful prayer and it reminds us that no matter who or what or where we are, we all have a reason to give thanks. Sure, things are not perfect and our life has difficulties we cannot ignore, yet when we pause to be thankful, I believe we are changed by that very fact, pretty soon our life does not seem so difficult and we can carry on for another day. By giving thanks, our attitude shifts away from us and toward our God and others who are a very important part of us. The word, “Eucharist” means “thanksgiving” and so we are called by Jesus to be a people of thanks.

With each of these prayers the response is “We give You thanks.”

LITANY OF THANKS TO GOD:

For the Church that you have built on the cornerstone of Christ…. “We give you thanks!”

For the wonders of Creation….

For the Life of each new day…

For the Word of your Gospel….

For the Strength that you give us in each Eucharist…

For the new life given us at Baptism…

For Forgiving us our sins…

For Carrying the burden of our punishment…

For the Holy Spirit who helps us in our weakness…

For Being here in our midst….

For the Sacraments….

For Healing the sick…

For our Prayers which you always answer…

For your Love and your Truth…

For Being with us in our difficulties…

For the multitude and diverse Talents you give us…

For calling us to our Service in spite of our uselessness…

For Mary, our Blessed Mother…

For our Families, for the Husband or Wife and Children your love has chosen for us…

For preparing a place for us close to you in the Kingdom of your Father…. AMEN!

I am sure you can think of many more reasons to give thanks. Please do so! “Have a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving!”
