Next weekend, on August 27-28th, Fr. John Odero will be speaking at all the Masses here at St. Peter and St. Paul about our Diocesan partnership in Kenya, Africa. Fr. John has been working within our St. Cloud Diocese for the past several years as a Parish Administrator and as Pastor. This has been part of a clergy exchange program between our Diocese of St. Cloud and the Diocese of Homa Bay, Kenya to which we have a partnership.
The purpose of this partnership has been to learn more about how each other’s country and diocese lives out their Catholic Faith in Christ and also to give priests like Fr. John a broader experience on how we do things in Central Minnesota. Fr. John Odero has been an invaluable resource for our diocese, not only with his added help to our parishes, but also we can learn more from him how to live out our faith by drawing from his own Kenyan experience.
Our own sister parish of St. Peter in Oyugis is also part of this Homa Bay exchange. Over the years, I believe, this relationship has enriched us as well. With this Sister Parish Partnership, we are becoming more aware of what it means to be a “universal” i.e. “Catholic” Church through them! Fr. John is scheduled to return to his home diocese in Homa Bay this in September. Since we have such a great history with our Sister Parish Partnership, he wanted to say his “Good-byes” and leave us with an important message as we continue on in the future. On Saturday and Sunday (August 27-28th) then I want you to please welcome Fr. John Odero as he comes to speak to us.
