Week of July 31, 2016
It was great to have Bishop Donald Kettler come to the Church of St. Peter last week to celebrate the 8:15 AM Mass on Thursday July 21st and to bless our new Pro-life memorial stone which is situated outside on the east side of the church. This stone was given to us by a very generous donor family who worked in close cooperation with our St. Peter Parish Council to come up with a very nice design. We as a council wanted this Pro-life stone to incorporate all facets and stages of human life. This would include not only the unborn, but also the healthy, handicapped, and elderly among us. To symbolize this, there is a beautiful engraving celebrating all these aspects of our life. Also, in light of Pope Francis’ recent encyclical on the environment “Laudato Si” we wanted to have something to remind us of how important it is to take our planet earth.
The stone is entitled: “Cherish Life.” On the front it contains a quote from Bishop Kettler stating, “Each person is a gift from God and needs to be loved, respected and protected, even in challenging circumstances.” On the back we have a picture of Jesus and Mary standing over planet earth with a quote from Psalm 24:1 “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world and all who live in it.”
My hope is that this stone will inspire everyone who sees it to care for, protect and promote all forms of human life and also our planet which we depend on so much. All these things are important to our faith life in Christ! If you have not done so already, please take time to stop by and see this beautiful stone for yourself!
