Preparation for Sacraments takes place in the context of the parish in cooperation with the Faith Formation program and parish school.
First Reconciliation for Children
Children generally prepare for their first experience of the Sacrament of Reconciliation as second graders. Preparation includes home study, classroom instruction at ASA or faith formation, and parent/child sessions. Contact the parish office for more informaiton.
The reception of Holy Communion begins a lifetime of being nourished by the Bread of Life, a more complete celebration of Eucharist. The first reception of these sacraments is most often celebrated when children are in the second grade, however preparation is arranged for any who request the sacraments. The preparation includes sessions for the parents and children together and also opportunities for the adults to update their understanding of the theology of the sacraments. The children are prepared to receive the sacraments with reverence, understanding and hope. Families are encouraged to recognize the grace of God already present in our everyday actions, and become aware that sacraments celebrate what God has done and continues to do in our lives. Texts are provided to guide parents in working with their children.
Registration for second graders takes place in the fall. Information for others wishing to prepare and celebrate the sacraments is available by contacting the parish office.
Confirmation is a Sacrament of initiation that is closely connected to Baptism and Eucharist. It completes the sacrament of baptism, brings an increase and deepening of baptismal grace and more clearly shows forth the gifts of the Spirit received in baptism. At the same time, the celebration of Confirmation links us more closely to Eucharist as a way to live out being a fully initiated Catholic.
Young people in 10th Grade or older are invited to participate in the sacramental preparation program for Confirmation. Our young people gather Sundays and Wednesdays for study and reflection. Christian Service Learning is done in and outside of the parish helping our youth to better understand the life of the parish and how each member is needed to carry out the mission of Jesus Christ.
The goal of the sacramental program for Confirmation is to invite and enable young people to embrace a life-long journey of faith with God within a Catholic community.
Baptized adults seeking Confirmation are invited to participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).
