Week of February 28, 2016

As you may know, our Parish Nursing Ministry has suffered some heavy blows these past 3 years: Dee Hanisch has recently passed and is no longer with us. Bea Gazett suffered a stroke last year. Judi Rassier (our Parish Nurse and Coordinator of volunteers) has also struggled with her own health problems these past 3 years. This past month I received in my office the final resignation of both Bea Gazett and Judy Rassier from their positions, so we are missing three out of our four parish nurses! I do want to say, over the years, all three of these Parish Nurses have done a wonderful job at visiting the homebound, going to the hospital and keeping in general contact with those who are wea

On this First Sunday of Lent, I would like to share with you a meditation from Henri Nouwen, one of my go-to authors whose spirituality I admire very much. The following meditation will take some time to understand, so I ask that after reading this, you please take a few quiet moments to allow these words to digest. It’s that time of year again for the “Bishop’s Annual Appeal”- formally known as the ‘Diocesan Annual Appeal.’ This weekend (Feb. 6-7th) is ‘Announcement Weekend’ whereby we have been asked to announce that each household will receive a letter from Bishop Kettler, asking for your financial support of the various Diocesan Offices and ministries such as: Vocations office, Marriage and Family Life, TV Mass, Catholic Schools and Faith Formation Programs, Catholic Youth and others.
